We consider the baptism of the Holy Spirit essential to supernatural ministry, and we require those who wish to join our team to have received this baptism. This ministry relies upon all nine gifts of the Holy Spirit as listed in 1 Corinthians 12 and Romans 12 in the Bible.
When a person comes to Christ and asks Him to come and live in them, the Holy Spirit comes and "indwells" them, like a bottle with some pop in it, but this is salvation, not the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. For some the Baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs simultaneously with salvation, but for most it is a second separate experience.
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is like shaking up the bottle of pop: the person is then filled with the Holy Spirit and bubbling over with the fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) and gifts (1 Cor. 12 and Rom. 12), empowered to be Christlike and to do the things that Jesus did, for the advancement of the Kingdom of God. "Power" is the operative word here.
Some say that we need to be Baptized with the Holy Spirit over and over again, that it is not just a "one-time" experience. We agree with that. This continual re-baptizing is called the filling" of the Holy Spirit.
How do I know if I have been baptized with the Holy Spirit? Should I seek it?
