Rest: from the beginning
Rest is something that God ordained for us from the beginning of time. Genesis tells us that after creating the entire universe, God rested on the seventh day, and made the seventh day a special day.
Was an infinitely powerful God tired? No way. So why did He rest?
My take on this is that He rested to show us that rest is integral to life, the universe and everything. Even God rests. Rest is something we are all made to do, and not just when we are tired. Those of us who have difficulty with this concept need to prayerfully consider the possibility that work or accomplishment or the approval of others has somehow become more important to us than it should be.
We were made to REST. Rest was ordained by God from the beginning of time.
[...] rest is our bottom-line, if rest is integral to life, the universe and everything, then before anything else we must start from a place of [...]
I am reminded of the work of the farmer… after he prepares the ground and plants the seed, waters, weeds and feeds, there’s nothing left to do but rest, and wait for the harvest… Rest gives us time to look forward to the fruits of our labours, and then enjoy them, or dream of new exploits. I even think there’s something about the resting that is co-labouring with God. Taking it out of our hands and leaving it in His.
Let’s change that from “co-labouring” to “collaborating or communing” with God. Trusting that God will cause the plant to grow… Sharing in His vision.
